What's a masterplan and why do I need one?
A masterplan is the conceptual design of the entire property. This plan includes all main systems and components, buildings as well as the necessary infrastructure.
The masterplan design integrates all the various design components seamlessly.
It typically includes:
- Access roads and pathways,
- Earthworks,
- Water retention and water infrastructure,
- Buildings,
- Planting and growing areas,
- Forestry,
- Animal systems and
- Waste management areas.
We will design a masterplan for your property based on your specific requirements and goals and the characteristics of your property.

Step 1
Comprehensive Client Workshop & Site Analysis
Our on-site Client Workshop & Site Analysis is the first step toward bringing your vision to life. During this intensive, one-day consultation, we work with you to assess your property, understand your goals, and craft a draft vision plan that aligns with your land and lifestyle.
What You’ll Get:
- Site Assessment: We evaluate landscape, soil health, sunlight, and water sources to maximise the potential of every square meter.
- Client Brief Development: Through in-depth discussion, we shape a vision that meets your unique needs and objectives.
- Design Elements: From water retention and rainwater harvesting to planting systems for food forests and veggie patches, we will discuss the different design elements that would suit you and your site.

Step 2
Draft Conceptual Design
Once the site has been assessed and the Client Workshop completed, our team will draft a concept design for your property. The draft concept design will include an overview of the design elements required to achieve your vision based on your specific site conditions.
Our Draft Conceptual Design Include:
- Water retention landscapes
- Water harvesting and storage systems
- Grey and blackwater systems
- Resources & infrastructure: Roads, fences, and buildings
- Growing systems: Food forests, vegetable gardens, aquaculture, etc.
- Animal systems

Step 3
Site Investigations
Once we have drafted a concept design, we will conduct a second site visit to undertake the site investigations and tests.
The site investigations and tests are critical to ensure that the draft conceptual design is feasible for the property.
The site investigations:
- Soil particle structure - Mason Jar
- Soil particle structure - Hand test
- Slice tests - This test is critical if any earthworks are required. A machine - TLB or small excavator - may be required for this test.

Step 4
Final Concept Design and Farm Masterplan
Based on the site investigations results, we will review the draft concept design. A revised concept design will be prepared and presented to you. After the final design workshop the farm masterplan document will be completed.

A Wetland Paradise
We helped Despi and Pat envision a new path for their underperforming and annually flooded 8 hectare banana farm.
By working WITH the water, to create a biodiverse wetland paradise including aquaculture, agroforestry, vegetable beds, homestead buildings and a wellness retreat centre.
6 Hectare Homestead
Maximising Diversity
We worked on a strategy for this homestead to supercharge it's existing infrastructure.
Including revitalising an underperforming pond, adding new water features to capture and store water, supporting indigenous forest rehabilitation, new planting and grazing zones, and making the entire property more accessible.
Organic Farming
Building Multi-Generational Resilience
We helped design systems to alleviate severe flooding that this organic farm was facing, and bolster multi-generational resilience, through rehabilitating the over grazed hillside into abundant agroforestry systems - providing food, infiltrating run-off and creating spongy soils to mitigate flooding.

We designed a fully off-grid house deeply connected to nature for this family compound. This 6 Hectare homestead has 3 interconnected water bodies, agroforestry systems, veggie gardens, animal systems and two new homes.

Wielding Water
We helped Annelee to maximise her soil hydration, by diverting and infiltrating road rainwater runoff into the community garden - with the overflow hydrating the vegetable garden and food forest. As well as divert her greywater into an abundant banana circle.
