Island Homestead

LOCATION: North Aegean Sea, Greece

SIZE: 6 hectares 

SCOPE: Implementation of water retention features, including: various terraces, a swimming pond and rice paddies.

We had the privilege of being offered the opportunity to work with the internationally acclaimed Elemental Ecosystems on this project. 

The main goal of this project is to prevent the fast drainage of the land into the adjacent water way. By re-routing and slowing down the natural water runoff, water infiltration into the soil is maximised. The water retention features installed allow for a more even hydration of the land throughout the property. Growing areas for additional crops including grains and rice are provided along the terraces. The swimming pond not only offers a platform for recreational activities but it also provides additional water security for the property.
